What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors oil level, oil temperature and oil quality through one combined sensor. The code is set when the PWM signal from that sensor is faulty. The cause may be wiring with a break or short, or poor contact. The driver normally does not notice the fault.
Possible causes
- Break or short to voltage in the supply wire
- Break or short to voltage in the signal wire
- Raised contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged oil level sensor
- Supply wire shorted to ground
- Signal wire shorted to ground, or briefly broken
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 2Check that the connector at the sensor is fully seated and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 3With a multimeter, check that the supply and signal wires have no contact with ground or voltage and are not broken
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil level, oil temperature and oil quality values in live data with the ignition on and see whether anything looks wrong
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the wiring and replace the sensor if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
