What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal to the air conditioning (A/C) system. The code is set if the signal is too high, too low or missing. At high torque output the ECM can switch off the A/C function, and then the A/C does not work.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals and connectors
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged A/C relay
What you can do
- 1Check that the A/C relay is firmly seated in its holder and that its contacts are clean and tight
- 2Look for loose, corroded or oxidised connectors at the A/C relay and at the control module connector, and clean or firmly reseat them
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable is neither broken nor in contact with ground or voltage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the A/C relay and listen for it to click
- 5If nothing above finds the cause, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the signal from the control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- Message in the information display
- The A/C system does not work
