What does this fault code mean?
The fault is present now: the engine control module (ECM) cannot detect a signal from the turbocharger control valve and has registered an open circuit in the signal cable. This happens when boost pressure is regulated, and the fault remains until it has been put right.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal cable to the valve
- Loose or oxidised connector at the valve
- Open circuit in the power cable to the valve
- Damaged turbocharger control valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector at the turbocharger control valve is firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 2Switch off the ignition, disconnect the connector, clean it and reconnect it
- 3With a diagnostic tool: switch the ignition on, activate the valve and listen for a click. A click points to poor contact in the connector
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the cable to the valve is not broken or short-circuited to ground
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp lit
