What does this fault code mean?

The fault is present now: the engine control module (ECM) has detected too high a voltage on the signal cable to the turbocharger control valve. The fault is checked when boost pressure is regulated, and it remains until the cause has been put right.

    Possible causes

    • Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
    • Damaged turbocharger control valve

    What you can do

    1. 1Clear the code and see whether it returns straight away, since the fault is there all the time
    2. 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable to the valve is not in contact with voltage when the ignition is on
    3. 3Look for chafed or pinched cables between the valve and the control module
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the turbocharger control valve and check that it responds
    5. 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the valve and the wiring

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Malfunction indicator lamp lit

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
