What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the measured boost pressure with a calculated target value. If the boost pressure becomes higher than the target, a fault is registered. The cause lies in the turbocharger control valve, the hoses, or the pressure servo and wastegate valve that control boost.
Possible causes
- Damaged turbocharger control valve
- One hose from the wastegate valve servo to the turbo control valve has worked loose, or is clogged or cracked
- Hoses between the turbocharger control valve and the charge air pipe are blocked or damaged
- Incorrectly adjusted wastegate valve pressure servo
- Damaged wastegate valve pressure servo
- Sticking wastegate valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the hoses between the wastegate valve pressure servo and the turbocharger control valve are not pinched, blocked or damaged
- 2Check that the hoses between the turbocharger control valve and the charge air pipe are not pinched, blocked or damaged
- 3With a diagnostic tool: activate the turbocharger control valve and listen for a click
- 4Check that the wastegate valve moves freely and is not sticking. Adjusting the pressure servo is a job for a workshop
- 5If none of the above finds the cause, have a workshop check the pressure servo and the boost control
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect1
- The throttle opening can be reduced
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
