What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the boost pressure it measures with its target value. If the boost pressure becomes higher than the target, a fault is registered, because the turbo control then produces too much boost.
Possible causes
- Incorrectly adjusted pressure servo on the wastegate valve
- Sticking wastegate valve
- Damaged turbocharger control valve
What you can do
- 1With a diagnostic tool: activate the turbocharger control valve. It should click when activated, but a damaged valve can be hard to detect that way
- 2Check that the wastegate valve moves freely and is not sticking
- 3The valve may work only at times, so drive the car and see whether the code returns
- 4Check that the wastegate valve pressure servo works. Adjusting the pressure servo is a job for a workshop
- 5If none of the above finds the cause, have a workshop check the wastegate valve and the pressure servo
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect1
- Boost pressure is lower because the boost control valve is held fully open
