What does this fault code mean?
The signal from the cooling fan relay to the engine control module has been faulty at some point. The fault is intermittent and not always present, so it can be hard to find with a short check.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground or voltage
- Supply cable short-circuited to ground
- Damaged cooling fan relay
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuse for the cooling fan relay is intact
- 2Check that the relay connector is firmly seated and free from contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Look for cables between the relay and the engine control module that may have come off or rubbed against the body
- 4With a diagnostic tool: activate the cooling fan and check that it starts
- 5If you find no fault, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the cooling fan relay

- The electric cooling fan does not work
- The electric cooling fan runs continuously, even with the ignition switched off
