What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) has registered too high a signal from the signal cable to the exhaust camshaft reset valve, and the code is set. The fault may be caused by the cable coming into contact with voltage, the supply being broken, or the valve being damaged.

    Possible causes

    • Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
    • Open circuit in the power supply
    • Damaged exhaust camshaft reset valve

    What you can do

    1. 1Start the engine and see whether the code comes back
    2. 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable to the valve is not in contact with battery voltage
    3. 3Check that the supply to the valve is not broken
    4. 4With a diagnostic tool: compare the valve control in live data with the requested position as the engine speed rises
    5. 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the valve and the wiring

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Malfunction indicator lamp lit
