What does this fault code mean?
This is a subsequent fault. It is set when the idle speed has moved outside the tolerance because of another fault in the engine. Put the primary fault right first; the code can then be cleared.
Possible causes
- Air leakage in the intake system
- Throttle sticking or blocked, for example by an oil film, dust or ice
- Blocked crankcase ventilation or PCV nipple
- Clogged or dirty oil sump
- Blocked intake system
- Blocked exhaust system
What you can do
- 1Look for the primary fault first, such as an air leak in the intake or a sticking throttle
- 2Check the intake hoses and connections for cracks and loose clamps
- 3Check that the throttle is not sticking
- 4Check that the crankcase ventilation hose and PCV nipple are not blocked
- 5Once the primary fault is fixed, clear the code and check that it does not come back
Symptoms you may notice2
- Idle speed is too high
- Idle speed is too low
