What does this fault code mean?
The actual angle of the camshaft is lower than the control module's target value, and the code is set. The engine control module cannot identify the cause of a value that is too low, so the check is made by comparing the actual position with the requested position at idle with the engine warm.
Possible causes
- The cause cannot be identified, because the control module cannot detect a value that is too low
What you can do
- 1With a diagnostic tool: start and warm up the engine, then compare the actual camshaft position with the requested position at idle
- 2Check the engine oil level and quality, especially whether it is contaminated
- 3Have a workshop remove and clean the reset valve and check the oil passages in the cylinder head
- 4If cleaning does not solve the fault, a new reset valve may be needed, which is a job for a workshop
- 5If none of this helps, the VVT unit may be damaged, and a workshop should check it
Symptoms you may notice3
- Uneven idle
- Increased emissions
- The engine cuts out while driving
