What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks that the intake camshaft is at the correct position relative to the crankshaft. If the position deviates, the adaptation is adjusted, and the fault code is stored when the adaptation becomes too large. The code applies when the camshaft position is too low in relation to the crankshaft.
Possible causes
- Poor oil quality
- The timing belt has jumped over the teeth
- Incorrectly adjusted camshafts
- Damaged reset valve
What you can do
- 1Check the engine oil level and quality, and look for contamination in the oil
- 2Have a workshop check that the timing belt position relative to the camshafts matches the markings on the engine
- 3Have a workshop adjust the camshaft settings so they are correctly positioned relative to the crankshaft
- 4Have a workshop check the reset valve and replace it if it is damaged
- 5After the work, check whether the symptoms you noticed are still present
Symptoms you may notice4
- Malfunction indicator light (MIL) lit
- Uneven idle
- Increased emissions
- Engine stalls while driving
