What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has found a fault in the signal wire to the camshaft reset valve, and the signal is missing. The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes and may not be present right now. The cause may be a temporary open circuit, a short circuit or a connection with varying contact resistance.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Contact resistance in the connectors
- Open circuit in the voltage supply wire
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Defective reset valve
What you can do
- 1Check the connector at the reset valve. A connection that makes contact only now and then may be the cause
- 2Gently move the wiring and connector with the ignition on and see whether the fault follows
- 3Check that the wiring has no open circuit, chafing or damage, especially where the cable moves
- 4Repair loose connectors and damaged wiring. Replace the reset valve if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp comes on now and then
- Uneven idle when the fault is present
What the fault can affect2
- The variable camshaft is switched off
- The camshaft stays in the position for maximum performance
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
