What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module checks the signal wire to the electric cooling fan and stores the fault code when the signal is missing. The fan may keep running for a while after the engine is switched off, and how long depends on engine temperature, the temperature in the engine bay and the A/C system pressure.

    Possible causes

    • Open circuit in the signal wire
    • Damaged electric cooling fan

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that nothing is blocking the fan blades and that they turn freely by hand with the ignition off
    2. 2With the ignition on, check that the electric cooling fan works at every speed step
    3. 3Check the fuse, supply voltage and ground lead to the electric cooling fan. The fuse box shows where the fuses are
    4. 4Check the connectors and wiring between the engine control module and the fan control module for damage, open circuits and short circuits
    5. 5If the fan cannot be activated at any speed and the wiring is intact, the fan control module may need replacing. Have a workshop do this

    Symptoms you may notice1
