What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the signal wire to the electric cooling fan and stores the fault code when the signal is too high. The fan may keep running for a while after the engine is switched off, and the length of that run-on depends on engine temperature, the temperature in the engine bay and the A/C system pressure.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged electric cooling fan
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check that the fan blades turn freely and nothing is blocking them
- 2With the ignition on, check that the electric cooling fan works at all its speed steps
- 3Use a multimeter to check whether the signal wire between the engine control module and the fan control module is shorted to supply voltage
- 4Check the fuse and ground lead to the electric cooling fan. The fuse box shows where the fuse is
- 5Replace the fan control module if it cannot be activated at any speed and there are no faults in the wiring
