What does this fault code mean?
The fault code is stored when the drive signal for the glow plug relay is out of range, high or low. A further trigger is a generator load that fails to climb to a set level once the relay is energised. The fault therefore lies in the control of the glow plug relay and in how the circuit works.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Defective glow plug relay
- Open circuit in the power wires
- Defective glow plug
What you can do
- 1Check that all connectors are secure, and reseat any that have come loose
- 2With the ignition on, activate the glow plug relay with the diagnostic tool and listen for a click. A missing click points to a faulty relay
- 3Use a multimeter to check whether the signal wire is shorted to supply voltage or ground
- 4Check that the fuse for the glow plugs is intact. The fuse box shows where the fuses are
- 5Replace the glow plug relay if it does not click and the wiring is intact. Have a workshop check the glow plugs if the fault remains
