What does this fault code mean?
Although the fault code is named faulty signal, it applies to communication with the glow plug relay, through which the engine control module drives the glow plugs. The fault may lie in the connectors or in the relay.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Damaged glow plug relay
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors to the relay sit firmly and have no looseness
- 2Look at the contact faces for oxidation and contact resistance, and clean them if needed
- 3If the connectors are sound, the relay may be damaged. Have a workshop assess this and replace it if needed
- 4Clear the fault code after the work and check that it does not return
Symptoms you may notice2
- A message appears in the text display
- The engine is hard to start when cold
