What does this fault code mean?
Glow plug 5 is controlled through the glow plug relay, and the fault code is stored when the engine control module finds a fault in that circuit. It may be due to poor contact in the connectors, an open signal wire or a damaged relay.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged glow plug relay
What you can do
- 1Check the connections at glow plug 5 for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Clean the connectors if they are oxidised, and make sure they are seated
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to glow plug 5 has no open circuit
- 4Replace the glow plug relay if the wiring is intact but the fault remains
