What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered that the intake camshaft sits too far forward, ahead of the crankshaft, during adaptation. The fault code is then stored and camshaft control is switched off.
Possible causes
- Poor engine oil quality
- Incorrectly adjusted camshafts
- The timing belt has jumped over the teeth
- Damaged camshaft reset valve
- Mechanical fault in the VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Check the oil level and quality, since poor oil can affect the control
- 2Have a workshop check that the timing belt is correctly seated and that the camshaft basic setting is right
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the intake camshaft adaptation at warm idle and compare it with the given range
- 4Have a workshop clean the reset valve, or replace it if it has stuck
- 5If the fault remains after this, the VVT unit may be damaged, which a workshop needs to assess
