What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered that the intake camshaft sits too far back, behind the crankshaft, during adaptation. The fault code is then stored and camshaft control is switched off.
Possible causes
- Poor engine oil quality
- Camshafts incorrectly adjusted
- The timing belt has jumped over the teeth
- Damaged air conditioning compressor
- Faulty camshaft reset valve
- Mechanical fault in the VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Oil must be at the right level and grade and free of contamination, so check it first
- 2The diagnostic tool shows the intake camshaft adaptation at idle with a warm engine. Check that the value lies within the acceptable range
- 3Have a workshop adjust the camshaft settings against the crankshaft using the prescribed method
- 4Have a workshop check that the timing belt has not jumped over the teeth
- 5If the fault remains after the adjustment, the reset valve may need cleaning or replacing
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp is lit
What the fault can affect1
- Camshaft control is switched off
