What does this fault code mean?
During adaptation the engine control module has found that the exhaust camshaft sits too far forward, ahead of the crankshaft. This is treated as a fault, and the fault code is stored. Control of the exhaust camshaft is then switched off.
Possible causes
- Poor quality oil
- Camshafts are set incorrectly
- The timing belt has slipped off the teeth
- Faulty reset valve
- Mechanical fault in the VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Check the engine oil level and quality. Poor oil can cause the fault
- 2Have a workshop check the basic setting of the camshaft and that the timing belt is correctly positioned
- 3Read the adaptation with the diagnostic tool at idle when the engine is warm, and compare it with the acceptable range
- 4Have a workshop clean the reset valve for the exhaust camshaft, or replace it if it has stuck
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop assess whether the VVT unit is damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights
What the fault can affect1
- Control of the exhaust camshaft is switched off
