ECM-673F - Mass airflow. Impaired performance
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module continuously compares the signals from the mass airflow meter and the boost pressure sensor with a calculated value. If the measured value drifts away, the fault code is stored. The fault may be caused by an air leak in the intake system or by a damaged sensor or meter.
Possible causes
- Air leaks in the intake system
- Poor connections, contact resistance or corroded terminals
- Damaged boost pressure sensor
- Damaged mass air flow meter
What you can do
- 1Look for air leaks in the intake system, such as loose hoses and clamps
- 2Check the connector at the air mass meter for play, contact resistance and oxidation, and clean it if needed
- 3Have a workshop check the boost pressure sensor, since it can also cause the fault code
- 4If the connector and intake system are in order but the fault remains, the air mass meter may be damaged. Have a workshop assess it
- 5Clear the fault code after the work and drive the car to see whether it comes back
Symptoms you may notice5
- Poorer performance
- Poor performance and lack of power, especially when pulling away
- The engine hesitates or surges during acceleration
- The engine hesitates when slowing down
- A text message appears in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
