What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module adjusts the intake camshaft angle through adaptation when it sits too far forward, ahead of the crankshaft. The fault code is stored when the adaptation value exceeds a set limit.
Possible causes
- Poor quality oil
- Intake camshafts are misadjusted
- The timing belt has jumped over some teeth
- A valve that sticks
- Mechanical fault in the VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Check the engine oil level and quality, and look for contamination
- 2Have a workshop check that the timing belt is seated correctly and that the camshaft basic setting is right
- 3A workshop can remove the intake-side reset valve and check the oil passages for dirt and blockage
- 4Replace the valve if it has stuck and cannot be cleaned
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop assess whether the VVT unit is damaged
Symptoms you may notice4
- The Check engine indicator lights up or behaves abnormally
- Starting difficulties, with the starter motor cranking slowly
- Poor performance, the engine lacks power
- Jerky running with hesitation
What the fault can affect1
- Intake camshaft control is switched off
