What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module adjusts the intake camshaft angle through adaptation and stores the fault code when it is too low, meaning the camshaft sits behind the crankshaft.
Possible causes
- Poor oil quality
- Camshafts are set wrongly
- The timing belt has jumped over the teeth
What you can do
- 1Check that the engine oil is at the right level and grade and is not contaminated
- 2Have a workshop check that the timing belt is correctly seated against the camshafts
- 3Have a workshop adjust the intake camshaft basic setting using the prescribed method
- 4Have a workshop clean the reset valve, or replace it if it does not work after cleaning
- 5If the fault remains after this, the VVT unit may be damaged, which a workshop will decide
Symptoms you may notice4
- The Check engine indicator lights up or behaves abnormally
- The engine is hard to start, and the starter motor cranks slowly
- The engine lacks power
- The engine hesitates and jerks
What the fault can affect1
- Camshaft control is switched off
