What does this fault code mean?
The ECM drives the turbo control motor with a pulse-width modulated signal. If the module registers that the signal to the motor is too high, the code is set. The fault is checked when the engine is shut off, and it may be a short to supply voltage in the signal wire or a damaged turbo control motor.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Open circuit in the ground lead
- Damaged turbo control motor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car; the code is checked when the engine is shut off, so see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector to the turbo control motor and the wiring for chafing, loose connections and oxidation
- 3With the ignition off and the connector disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no voltage to ground (body)
- 4Check that the ground lead to the turbo control motor is intact and has good contact
- 5With diagnostic equipment, activate the turbo control motor and check that it moves
- 6If the wiring is intact but the fault remains, have a workshop check the turbo control motor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque is limited
