What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the measured boost pressure from the boost pressure sensor with the calculated boost pressure. If the ratio between them is greater than a certain value, the module treats it as a fault, and the code is set while turbocharger (TC) control is active. The cause may be air leakage after the turbocharger, or a loose or damaged boost pressure sensor.
Possible causes
- Air leakage after the turbocharger, between the turbocharger and the throttle unit
- The boost pressure sensor has come loose and then measures atmospheric pressure
- Defective boost pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Make sure the boost pressure sensor sits correctly and has not worked loose
- 3Look for air leakage in the intake system, especially in the hose between the turbocharger and the throttle unit
- 4With diagnostic equipment, read boost pressure in live data with the ignition on and the engine off; the value should be about the same as the surrounding air pressure
- 5If no cause is found in the hoses, have a workshop try a new boost pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect1
- Boost pressure is reduced
