What does this fault code mean?

The ECM drives the turbo control motor with a pulse-width modulated signal. If the module registers that the signal to the motor is too low, the code is set. The fault is checked when the engine is shut off, and the cause may be an open circuit in the signal wire, a short to ground or a damaged turbo control motor.

    Possible causes

    • Open circuit in the signal wire
    • Signal wire shorted to ground
    • Damaged turbo control motor

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car; the code is checked when the engine is shut off, so see whether it returns
    2. 2Check the connector to the turbo control motor and the wiring for chafing and loose connections
    3. 3With the ignition off and the connector disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is intact and has no contact with ground (body)
    4. 4With diagnostic equipment, activate the turbo control motor and check that it moves
    5. 5If the wire is intact but the fault remains, have a workshop check the turbo control motor
