What does this fault code mean?
The ECM drives the turbo control motor with a pulse-width modulated signal and watches the circuit. The code is set when an open circuit is registered in the circuit to the motor, and also when the temperature in the output stage that drives the motor becomes too high.
Possible causes
- Loose connection, contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals
- Open circuit in the power supply
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the ground lead
- Damaged turbo control motor
- The turbo control motor binds or has seized
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2With the ignition off, check that the moving parts of the turbo control motor move freely and have not jammed
- 3Check the connector to the turbo control motor for loose contact, contact resistance and oxidation
- 4With diagnostic equipment and the ignition on, command the motor and listen for a ticking sound
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the supply, signal and ground wires are intact
- 6If the wiring is intact but the fault remains, have a workshop check the turbo control motor
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor performance
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on
