What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors its own temperature. If the high-temperature signal is faulty with the ignition on, the code is set. A blocked air supply can be behind it, and the electric cooling fan then runs at half speed.
Possible causes
- The air supply is blocked
What you can do
- 1If ECM-680X is stored as well, deal with that first, since a broken fan for the control module box can trigger this code
- 2With diagnostic equipment, switch on the fan for the control module box and listen for a buzz as it starts up
- 3Go through the airways to the control module box and see whether anything is obstructing the airflow
- 4Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- Electric cooling fan runs at half speed
