What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) sends the global time on the CAN network, and the engine control module (ECM) needs it. If the time does not arrive, or is wrong, the ECM treats it as a fault and sets the code. The cause may be a problem on the CAN link, or a fault inside the CEM or another module on that part of the network.
Possible causes
- The clock data sent on the CAN network is wrong
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Fault inside the ECM itself
- Internal fault in another module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read stored codes from the CEM and any other affected modules before you clear anything
- 2Correct the faults that are present; this code should be cleared last, once the faults in the CEM and other modules are gone
- 3With the ignition off and the connectors disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires are intact and not shorted together
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the instrument cluster
