What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the signal from the gear position sensor for positions P and N with the signal arriving via CAN communication. The code is set when the two differ, and the CAN signal is then used instead. The starter motor does not turn while the fault is active. The fault applies to the C30, C70 (06-), S40 (04-) and V50.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Fault in the transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Remedy first any code logged for the gear selector sensor in the TCM
- 2Check that the connectors at the gear position sensor are secure and clean
- 3Using a multimeter, check that the signal wire is not broken or shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 4Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the transmission control module (TCM)
Symptoms you may notice1
- The starter motor does not turn
What the fault can affect1
- The signal via CAN communication is used instead
