What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the immobilizer code against the central electronic module (CEM) before the engine is allowed to start. If the code is missing or wrong, the fault code is set and the engine does not start. The fault applies to the C30, S40 (04-), S60 (-09), V50, V70, V70 XC and XC90.
Possible causes
- Wrong ignition key
- Low battery voltage
- Poor plug contact or corrosion at the ECM connector
- Open circuit or short to ground in the power supply to the ECM
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring
What you can do
- 1Check that you are using the correct ignition key, and try another key if you have one
- 2Check that the battery voltage is normal and charge the battery if needed
- 3Check that the connector to the engine control module is secure and free from corrosion
- 4Check that the fuses for the engine control module are intact
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the power supply and the CAN wiring to the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start, sometimes or all the time
