What does this fault code mean?
When the ECM receives a message from the CEM, it replies with a checksum. If the checksums do not agree, or if CAN communication between the two modules stops working, the fault code is set in the engine control module. The fault applies among others to the S60 (-09), V70 (00-08) and XC90.
Possible causes
- CAN-related fault codes stored in the central electronic module (CEM)
- Incorrect software has been downloaded to the engine control module, so the checksum does not agree
- Damaged engine control module
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronic module first and remedy any CAN-related codes there
- 2Clear this code only after the other codes have been remedied and cleared, then road test the car
- 3Check that the battery has good voltage and that the fuses for the engine control module are intact
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the engine control module software and, if needed, replace and program the module
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
