What does this fault code mean?
With the ignition on, the ECM checks that it is receiving +30 supply. If that supply is missing, the fault ECM-8000 is stored, and the cause is an open circuit in the power wire. The malfunction indicator lamp lights. The fault applies to the C70 Convertible (-05), C70 Coupe (-02), S60 (-09), S70, S80 (-06), V70 (-00) and V70 (00-08).
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the power wire to the engine control module
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses for the engine control module are intact
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the system voltage with the ignition on; it should be close to the battery voltage
- 4Inspect the power wire to the engine control module for breaks, chafing and loose connectors
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the wiring and the control module
