What does this fault code mean?
The output from the system relay has given a faulty signal on at least one occasion. The fault is intermittent, meaning it has been present but is no longer visible. It may be caused by the charging system, the battery, contact resistance, the system relay, or an open circuit or short to ground in the supply wire. The engine may then stall or fail to start.
Possible causes
- Faulty charging system
- Poor battery
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Faulty system relay
- Open circuit in the supply wire from the system relay
- Short to ground in the supply wire from the system relay
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Inspect the supply wire from the system relay for breaks and chafing
- 3Check the battery connections and the condition of the battery
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the system relay voltage in live data and see whether it follows the charging
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop check the system relay and the charging system
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine stalls
- The engine does not start
