What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the 5 volt wire that supplies power to sensors and other components. If the voltage on that wire becomes too high, the module treats it as a fault and sets the code. The cause may be a wire shorted to battery voltage or a damaged sensor on the wire. The engine may perform worse than normal.
Possible causes
- The 5 volt supply wire is shorted to battery voltage
- A sensor on the 5 volt wire has failed
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Inspect the wiring to the sensors on the 5 volt wire for chafing or pinching that may have let it touch a live wire
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the sensor values in live data and check whether any is unreasonably high
- 4Check that the sensor connectors are secure and free from corrosion
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the sensors and the 5 volt wire
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine performance is worse than normal
