What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module monitors the 5 volt wire that supplies power to the components. If the voltage on it becomes too low, the module reads this as a fault and the code is set. The fault may be caused by the wire being shorted to ground or by a damaged sensor. Engine performance may then be reduced.

    Possible causes

    • The 5 volt wire is shorted to ground
    • Damaged sensor connected to the 5 volt wire

    What you can do

    1. 1Check the wiring to the 5 volt wire for chafing or a short to the bodywork
    2. 2Using a multimeter, check that the 5 volt wire has no contact with ground
    3. 3Check the battery voltage and the generator's charging
    4. 4Check the engine control module and system relay connectors for contact resistance and oxidation
    5. 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the sensors and the engine control module connectors

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Engine performance is worse than normal

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
