What does this fault code mean?
After the ignition has been switched off, the engine control module carries out internal checks and then releases the system relay. If the relay is still engaged after that, the fault code is set. The fault may be caused by a short to ground or to supply voltage in the signal or power wire, contact resistance in the connections, or a defective relay. A discharged battery may be noticed.

- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Power wire shorted to supply voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Defective system relay
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connectors to the system relay are secure and clean, particularly where the wiring meets them
- 3Make sure no consumers are running when you measure, and let the cooling fan finish if it runs after switch-off
- 4Using a multimeter, check that the signal wire is not shorted to ground or to supply voltage
- 5If no fault is found, have a workshop try a new system relay
