What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the feed through the system relay and has logged a voltage that is too high. The cause is a faulty charging system. The engine may then be hard to start or fail to start at all. The fault applies to the C30, C70 (06-), S40 (04-), S60 (-09), S80 (-06), V50, V70 (00-08), V70 XC and XC90.
Possible causes
- Faulty charging system
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: read the battery voltage with the engine running and compare it with the generator's charging voltage
- 2Check that the battery connections are tight and clean
- 3Switch on a few high-current consumers, such as the blower or high beam, and see how the voltage behaves
- 4If the code was stored after a battery charger was connected, check that the charger did not give too high a charging voltage
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the generator's charging function and its control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start, sometimes or all the time
