What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered a voltage from the system relay that is too low. The fault is caused by a faulty charging system or a damaged battery, and the engine may then stall or fail to start at all. The fault applies to the C30, C70 (06-), S40 (04-), S60 (-09), S80 (-06), V50, V70 (00-08), V70 XC and XC90.
Possible causes
- Faulty charging system
- Damaged battery
What you can do
- 1Check the battery voltage and condition
- 2Check the generator's charging function
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the system relay voltage in live data with the engine running
- 4Check that the connectors at the engine control module and the system relay have no contact resistance or oxidation
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop try a new system relay
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine does not start, sometimes or all the time
- The engine stalls while driving, sometimes or all the time
