What does this fault code mean?
This code means the voltage to the sensors is too low when the engine control module (ECM) checks it with the ignition on. The wire may be shorted to ground, a sensor may be damaged, or the fault may lie in the control module. This variant differs from the code for high voltage.
Possible causes
- Short to ground in the supply to the sensors
- A sensor is damaged
- The control module is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read the code and check whether it is active with the ignition on
- 2Check the sensor supply wire for chafing and contact with ground; use a multimeter against the body
- 3Check that the sensor connectors are fully engaged and free from oxidation
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, read the sensor values in live data and see whether any one gives a reading that is too low compared with the others
- 5Repair as needed and road test the car; if the code returns, have a workshop decide whether the control module needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine cranks but does not start
- Poor performance
- The engine is hard to start
