What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) runs internal tests on its processor, software and memory, and the code is set when one of them registers a fault. The fault can lie in the control module itself, and it is sometimes set together with other codes. While the fault is active the throttle and cruise control are limited.
Possible causes
- Defective engine control module
- The code can be set together with other codes, which should then also be read out
What you can do
- 1Read the other codes stored at the same time, since this code can be set together with them
- 2Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 3If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the control module and program the new one, since it is supplied without software
Symptoms you may notice4
- The accelerator pedal is ignored when braking
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
- Uneven idle
- The electronic throttle system warning lamp is on
What the fault can affect3
- The throttle follows the accelerator pedal position directly, and fuel cut-off follows the pedal position
- Engine speed is regulated by switching off the injectors one at a time, so idle may feel very uneven
- Cruise control is switched off during the driving cycle in which the fault was detected, and it is available again at the next start if the fault is no longer present
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
