What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) continuously checks its internal reset function. The code is set when something is wrong there, and the control module then tries to restart itself. The fault is intermittent: it has occurred on an earlier occasion but is not present right now.
Possible causes
- The control module software has a fault
- The control module is defective
What you can do
- 1Read the code status: if it shows the fault is not present now, the fault is sporadic
- 2Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 3If the fault returns, have a workshop download new software to the control module
- 4If the fault continues despite new software, have a workshop replace the control module

- The malfunction indicator light flashes
- The engine stalls
- The engine does not start
