What does this fault code mean?
When the engine control module (ECM) tries to adapt the throttle unit, the throttle angle at its spring-returned end position is outside the programmed limit, and the code is set. Causes can be a throttle that sticks or is blocked, or oxidized connections. Faults that set this code may also affect the adaptation values, so the throttle unit needs to be adapted again.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked by an oil film, dust or similar
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors between the ECM and the throttle unit
- Defective or damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the throttle is not blocked by any object or sticking, and clean it if necessary
- 2Check the connectors at the throttle unit and at the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3With the ignition off, turn the throttle slowly by hand towards fully open and release it. The return spring should close it to rest; if not, the throttle unit is defective.
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, check that the fault status of ECM-9117 is clear once the diagnostic status shows finished.
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment carry out the adaptation of the throttle unit, as it is a calibration
- 6If the fault remains after these checks and the adaptation, the throttle unit may need to be replaced by a workshop
Symptoms you may notice2
- The car lacks power
- The idle is uneven
