What does this fault code mean?
When the engine control module (ECM) tries to adapt the throttle unit and the basic conditions for the adaptation are not met, the code is set and the adaptation is cancelled. Other stored fault codes can prevent the adaptation, so they should be remedied first.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by an oil film or dust
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors between the ECM and the throttle unit
- Defective throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes and first remedy the other stored fault codes, as they can prevent the adaptation
- 2The car must be stationary, the accelerator released and the ignition on with the engine off when the adaptation is run.
- 3Check the connectors at the throttle unit and at the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Check that the throttle is not blocked by any object or sticking, and clean it if necessary
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: watch the adaptation parameter for the throttle unit. It should go from YES to NO when adaptation is done, and then show OK.
- 6If the adaptation does not complete, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment carry it out, as it is a calibration
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine feels weaker than normal
What the fault can affect2
- The adaptation of the throttle unit is cancelled
- The ECM cuts the supply to the throttle motor, so the throttle moves to its spring-returned position
