What does this fault code mean?
This code is never set on its own. It is always set together with fault codes ECM-9150 and ECM-9160, which concern the two potentiometers in the throttle unit, and it is a follow-on code to them. The root fault is therefore remedied first, after which this code can be erased. It shows that the throttle position sensor circuit in the throttle unit is faulty.
Possible causes
- Fault in the throttle position sensor circuit of the throttle unit, meaning the faults that also give ECM-9150 and ECM-9160
What you can do
- 1First remedy fault codes ECM-9150 and ECM-9160, as this code follows from them
- 2Erase this code once the others are remedied, and test drive to check that it does not return
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the DTC status of ECM-9170 after the test drive. If it returns, have a workshop trace the throttle position sensor circuit.
Symptoms you may notice2
- The car lacks power
- The idle is uneven
What the fault can affect1
- The supply to the throttle motor is switched off, and the throttle moves to its spring-returned position
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
