What does this fault code mean?
The throttle unit (ETM) has noticed that the ECM signals cruise control as on while the brake light switch is pressed, or that the throttle unit has a fault that blocks cruise control. The ECM then stores the code, which can come together with other fault codes.
Possible causes
- Open circuit, short-circuit to voltage or short-circuit to ground in the brake light switch signal cable between the ECM and the throttle unit
- Defective engine control module
What you can do
- 1First troubleshoot fault codes ECM-9400 and/or ECM-914F if they are stored, as they should be traced first
- 2Use the frozen values and counters of the fault code. If the fault has occurred often recently, it is easier to recreate it during troubleshooting
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the brake light switch signal cable has no open circuit and is not short-circuited to voltage or ground
- 4Erase the code and reset: ignition off for three minutes, on and off again, then three more. Add two minutes if the cooling fan has been running.
- 5If the fault remains, the engine control module may be defective, and a workshop should check it
Symptoms you may notice3
- The accelerator pedal is ignored when the brake pedal is pressed
- The cruise control cannot be activated
- The ETS warning lamp lights, on C70 and S/V70 -2000 only
What the fault can affect3
- The throttle closes when braking, and pedal input is ignored while the brake is pressed
- The cruise control is switched off during the driving cycle when the fault was detected, and it works again the next time the car starts if the fault is gone
- While the fault is active, the throttle tracks the pedal and cruise control is blocked from engaging
