What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the cruise control button information that the steering wheel module (SWM) sends over the CAN network, including a checksum. The code is set if the information does not match or seems unreasonable. The cause can be a defective steering wheel module or an incorrect system voltage.
Possible causes
- Defective steering wheel module (SWM)
- Incorrect system voltage
What you can do
- 1Check whether other modules have fault codes for CAN faults, and troubleshoot those first if so
- 2Read off the fault codes in the steering wheel module (SWM), which may show faults in the cruise control buttons, and remedy them first
- 3Read the frozen values and counters. If the code came at low battery voltage at start, check the battery charge, since low voltage can be the cause.
- 4Ask the workshop whether upgraded software is available for the car. It requires a minimum vehicle speed for the tests to be active, and it is more tolerant of brief interference
- 5Erase the codes and reset: ignition off for three minutes, on and off again, then three more. Add two minutes if the cooling fan has been running.
Symptoms you may notice2
- A general orange warning lamp lights
- The cruise control does not work at all
What the fault can affect2
- The cruise control is switched off during the driving cycle when the fault was detected
- The cruise control works again the next time the car starts if the fault is gone
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
