What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is titled faulty signal, it applies to the throttle angle in the fully returned end position. The engine control module (ECM) sets the code when it tries to adapt the throttle unit and this angle is outside the programmed limit.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked by oil film or dust
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors between the ECM and the throttle unit
- A damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes and deal first with any that relate to the throttle unit, throttle position sensor or ECM
- 2Check that nothing is blocking the throttle and that it is not sticking. Clean as needed
- 3Check that the connectors at the throttle unit and the ECM are secure and free from corrosion
- 4With the ignition off: open the throttle carefully by hand and let go. If it does not return to rest by itself, this points to a damaged throttle unit
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: check in the parameters that the throttle unit adaptation shows OK. The adaptation itself is carried out by a workshop
- 6If the code remains after this, the throttle unit may need replacing. The new unit must be adapted, which a workshop with diagnostic equipment does
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor driving, the car lacks power
- Uneven or unsteady idle
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
