What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the cruise control buttons over the CAN network via the steering wheel module (SWM). The code is stored when the SWM registers a fault in how the buttons function. The fault may lie in the SWM or in the CAN communication, which can also produce codes in the central electronic module (CEM).
Possible causes
- A fault in the steering wheel module (SWM), where fault tracing starts
- A CAN-related fault, which can also show as a code in the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the steering wheel module (SWM) first and deal with them. This code cannot be cleared until they have been remedied
- 2Then check the CEM for fault codes and remedy any CAN-related ones
- 3Check the connectors at the steering wheel module and at the buttons on the wheel: are they secure and free from corrosion
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: look in live data at how each cruise button registers when pressed. A button that never shows, or always shows, points to a fault
- 5If no clear cause turns up, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment fault-trace further, as the code has no established fault-tracing procedure
Symptoms you may notice2
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
What the fault can affect1
- Cruise control is switched off
