What does this fault code mean?
The code is stored when the ECM tries to adapt the throttle unit but finds that the conditions needed for adaptation are not met, even though adaptation is required. Although the code is titled signal too high, it concerns those conditions. Other fault codes should be dealt with first, as they may stop the adaptation from completing.
Possible causes
- The ignition was not in the right state for the attempt, as the engine must be off
- The accelerator pedal was not fully released during the adaptation
- The vehicle was moving when it should have been stationary
- The throttle sticks or is blocked by oil film or dust
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors between the ECM and the throttle unit
- A damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes and deal first with any that are present, as they may stop the adaptation from completing
- 2Adaptation requires the accelerator pedal to be released and the car to be stationary. If either was not met, that may be the reason
- 3Check the connectors between the ECM and the throttle unit: are they secure, and is there oxidation or corrosion
- 4Look for anything blocking the throttle and check that it is not sticking. Clean as needed
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: check in the parameters that the throttle unit adaptation shows OK. The adaptation itself is carried out by a workshop
- 6If the fault remains, the throttle unit may be damaged. A new unit must then be adapted, which a workshop with diagnostic equipment does
Symptoms you may notice1
- Reduced engine performance
What the fault can affect3
- The adaptation is cancelled
- The ECM cuts power to the throttle motor, and the throttle goes to its return position
- Only if a new ECM has been fitted to the car, one that has never adapted the throttle unit before, can the ECM use a reversible fuel shut-off
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
